Focus on HIV Treatment- African churches advised

“Together we can do it, if we start addressing HIV and AIDS by focusing on treatment,” stated Rev. Joyce Kariuki, at a gathering of Heads of Theological institutions and theologians in the Lutheran Communion in East and Central Africa (LUCCEA) region.

The group met in Nairobi for three days to deliberate and develop a standard curriculum for HIV and AIDS education for both churches theological institutions in the region.

Reverend Robert GOYEK DAGA re-elected President of CPCC

The Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon (CPCC) held its General Assembly last March 27th – 28th 2009, in Bamenda, North West regional capital of Cameroon. A meeting during which Reverend Robert GOYEK DAGA, out going President was brought back to seat to lead this very important Christian organization in Cameroon.

He will lead the  CPCC with 11 member churches, for the up coming four years. These churches are from both French and English speaking areas of Cameroon.

It should be recalled that Rev. GOYEK was called upon to continue the work of Late Rev. FOCHIVE who was the Leader of Evangelical Church of Cameroon and at the head of CPCC for two years before he was recalled back in 2007.

Reverend Robert GOYEK is also the National President of Church of the Lutheran Brethren of Cameroon, CLBC, and President of the Lutheran Communion in Central and Western Africa, LUCCWA.

EECMY Elects New President

Rev Dr. WakeseyumThe Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus /EECMY/ at its 18th General Assembly held on January 25-31 at Mekane Yesus Seminary meeting hall in Addis Ababa elected Rev. Dr. Wakeseyum Idossa as president of the Church for a period of four years services.  He is the sixth  president of the EECMY, the Church which celebrated the jubilee of her constitution on national level (from January 17-19, 2009), The Assembly also elected two officers including the vice president, Rev. Dereje Jemberu and the Treasurer, Ato Almaw Garri. EECMY is the first largest member Church of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Africa and is ranking second in global membership of LWF next to Church of Sweden.

Particpants of a Global Ecumenical conference to affirm solidarity and justice for DalitsA Global Ecumenical conference to affirm solidarity and justice for Dalits has opened in Bangkok, Thailand 20.3.2009 with a call for significant identification and support from the global church. The meeting will continue until 24th of March.

The conference is being jointly organised by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Christian Council of Asia.

LWF Africa

The LWF communion in Africa includes 30 member churches in 22 countries, with a combined membership of 14.98 million at the end of 2005. Six churches have a membership over 500,000 and ten churches have fewer than 25,000 members.

The Africa area desk (based in Geneva) accompanies LWF member churches in their holistic ministries through programs and projects that respond to particular concerns of church life in the region and specific priorities identified by the member churches.
